August District 2 Update
July is just about gone for 2009 and along with it another NATS has passed. In all the classes we were represented in District 2 finished with wood to bring back home. Not bad! Here is a listing of who made the trip. A job well done by everyone.

I noticed this year more EP airplanes are starting to show up in all classes. I even caught Mark Carey looking inside some EP airframes. I wonder what that could mean.
Something else that was reinforced to me while at the NATS was rudder control in the wind. For the Sportsman and Intermediate pilots don’t be afraid to practice in the wind. I’m sure the upper class pilots are very aware of the rudder. After all how many times do they tell us? “USE YOUR RUDDER”. Left to right, right to left and in or out make sure you are comfortable with every direction. How often have you gone to a contest and had winds down the runway at 5mph? Your capability to use rudder in the wind will be rewarded in the winner’s circle.
I want to thank Dave Guerin and his crew for all the time and effort they put into the 2009 NATS. Without them it would not have been possible.
The district VP’s have been asked to solicit the opinions of our district members as to the 2010 NATS being held in Crowley, Louisiana possibly in the fall. The event site would be 2 full scale runways each 4000 feet in length with full use of the two runways for a full 5 days. Surrounding grass areas are in good shape and will allow parking. There are a few local clubs within 20 miles that would host for practice sites. Two towns are within a 10 mile radius for lodging and food. Make sure to go to the NSRCa WEB SITE to submit your vote.
I received a call from George Asteris with the news of the possibility of holding another D2 contest. After some discussion and feedback the decision was made to schedule a late fall contest at Green Sea. The contest dates are NOV. 7th and 8th. This contest will be after the Winston Salem District 2 Championship contest. George will CD the event. Buff I’m counting on you to keep the weather gods happy!
On a final note I want to thank Rick Harn and Dick Fremberg for the excellent articles they have submitted to me. Rick’s article dealt with his thoughts and reasons for getting involved with pattern. Dick is writing a series of articles starting with the Sportsman flier, equipment choices, importance of coaches and many other subjects. We hope to touch on all areas of pattern flying. Check for Ricks article and the beginning of a Dicks informative series of articles in the D2 Kfactor column. Hopefully they will begin in the August issue. (There was some confusion concerning submission dates)
