May 1-2 - Emerald Coast "Beachcomber" Pattern Classic

The Eglin Aeromodellers will host the 2010 Emerald Coast Beachcomber Pattern Classic on 1 and 2 May 2010. The contest will be held at the Eglin Aeromodellers (EAM) flying field at Test Site C-3, in Niceville, FL on State Route 285, three miles North of College Boulevard. See the Eglin Aeromodellers' website for detailed map and field rules: www.eglinaeromodellers.org. Our runway runs North-South and features a 400 ft by 50 ft smooth asphalt surface for take-off and landing.

The entry fee is $30. We are planning on flying all classes, AMA 401 Sportsman, 402 Intermediate, 403 Advanced, 404 Masters, and 406 FAI. FAI will fly P-11 on Saturday and F-11 on Sunday. We will use contestant judging. The plan is to fly six rounds, four on Saturday, and two on Sunday. We will run a lunch concession on Saturday and beverage concession on both days. We have limited power outlets available for electric flyers. Trophies will be awarded through third place in all classes. If there is enough interest, I will set up a Saturday evening dinner/social at one of our local eateries.

So we can start early on both Saturday and Sunday, we will set up the pit area on the East side of the runway and then move to the West side for the remaining rounds each day. We ask that contestants not set up shelters until we have moved to the West side - this will help expedite the move. We also ask that contestants not drive on the smooth surface.

Now for the negative bureaucratic stuff: Our field is located on an active US Air Force test site and we are bound by the Air Force rules. We are not permitted to bring dogs or alcoholic beverages on the grounds. Also, overnight camping is not permitted. The field will be open for practice on Friday, April 30. I will update this with a time once I have a schedule commitment from the club on availability of members to serve as sponsors. Finally, in the unlikely event of a crash, the EAM club members will assist with retrieval - again, we have to abide by Air Force rules. Please don't let the Air Force rules discourage you. They sound a lot more annoying that they actually are.
