District 2 February Update

E-mail Print PDF

Flying as I know it in Virginia no longer exist. There is still approximately 2 feet of snow in my backyard not to mention the drifts and the piles of snow the snow plows left. (Most at least 6 feet high) To add insult to injury I get phone calls from the southern portion of the district letting me know that oh, by the way, we went out and flew just the other day. I believe I finally get the picture-move south!
I am seeing a few contest start to show up in the calendar. That is good news. I also have another to add. FARM will again hold the Sept. contest. This year the FARM Club will support both the spring and fall contests I recently spoke to George Asteris. Looks like if all goes well we will have another fall contest at Green Sea. Should be a good time as it will be around the Halloween time frame. Buff's spring event is already scheduled. Winston Salem should be hosting their Spring and Fall contest. Marvin Marozas is working with the Lake City Club to schedule a contest. At this point I count at least six contest that are or will be scheduled. Don't forget to plan on attending the D1/D2 Challenge. Archie is working hard to make this one we will all enjoy. (Guys we need this trophy)
On the subject of contests I would like to talk about the district finals. I believe everyone knows but for the ones that don't the contest is held at Winston Salem unless another club or individual submits for the finals to be held at another approved site. It should be noted that approval must be granted by the District.  I'm bringing this up now as it is never too early to begin thinking about it. Winston Salem does a great job and I don't in any way want to suggest they don't.  This would give the District another contest as the finals replaces Winston Salem's fall event. Bill and Terry please let me know how you feel on this.
I hope everyone is ready to go for that first contest. Until then back to the simulator.

January Update for D2

E-mail Print PDF
Just a few items for January:
I hope everyone received that special gift for the holidays. What ever it may have been, a family gathering, time off from that busy job or a special gift. ( A new two meter airplane)  Good news!  We will be able to continue with two contest at the FARM field for 2010. Dates are May 29th and 30th for the 1st event and the second event is scheduled for Sept.18th and 19th.   The contests have been voted on by the FARM board of directors and approved. Make your plans early- save those dates.  A new contest has been scheduled for 2010. This contest is being advertised as D1/ D2 Challenge. I had hoped when I mentioned the idea last year it could happen.  Archie Stafford did exactly that. Contest dates are June 19th and 20th. The contest will be listed on the D1 NSRCA site. Check it out for site and contest information. The event site is more centrally located. Should be a little closer for north and south fliers.  We need strong representation  to show that DISTRICT 2 is the champion.  This will give eveyone a chance to fly against new pilots. Let's make this a great event and one that will continue on.!!!  Let's take that trophy back to the South!
One final word. Start putting those 2010 contests in the calendar. It really helps for scheduling those new contest.

Still looking for more input. Where are those articles from the District members?

December Update District 2

E-mail Print PDF
December is definitely here in Virginia. Not much flying going on. How about the Carolina's?  With winter upon us I finally have a chance to catch up on a few of my District VP duties. One of which is scheduling of contest. I really need to hear from everyone who is going to CD a contest or even thinks they may have a contest. I  need dates and locations.  This year especially as I'm working with D-1 to have a D1/D2 shootout.  I 've got some interest from District 1 to include a club that is willing to have the contest.  Location would be in Maryland. Date looks to be in June.  Now my next question is, can I count of District 2 for a good representation in all classes. I want  the home of the shootout trophy to be in District 2.  I believe we have the talent now all we need is the comittment.
I'm sure by now all NSRCA members have gotten the rules survey. Please make sure to fill it in and return it.  Any comments you have send them my way. I'll put them in front of the board.  I'm seeing a good conversation dealing with the 11 lb. weight limit for pattern airplanes. If your interested check it out on the RC Universe Pattern Forum page.  If we maintain the 2 meter size limit do we need to be concerned about weight?
I do have one other task to do and that is to get the gifts wrapped for my Mrs Santa. Without her support this hobby "Pattern" would not be half as much fun! I hope everyone in District 2 has a great holiday season.  Let me know what Mrs. Santa get's  you.

District 2 November Update

November District 2 Update

Who would have thought we could schedule a pattern contest in mid-November and have 21 pilots show up? It happened! There is a growing interest in D2 and the fall Green Sea contest proved it. I must thank George for organizing the contest and stepping out as CD. He has been in District for less than a year and had no idea of the support he could expect. George, I hope you were pleasantly surprised. District two truly has some great people that are willing to support the sport of pattern flying.  Every time I look at the listing of pilots in the various classes from a contest I smile when I see the number of pilots in Sportsman and Intermediate. Let’s keep it going. We have a great bunch of new pilots who are serious about their flying. If you don’t believe it just ask one. They all have a goal to compete, get better and move up.  Perhaps next year the district should honor the most improved pilot. (District 2 pilot group vote)

I’m not going into great details as far as the recent contest only the high points. Buff has already posted the contest results. Take a look on this site. Great job Buff. Some of high points include presentation of the District trophies and fellowship award, appointment of POC for 2010 judging clinic (Dale Arnold great job stepping forward although I thought I did see someone in back of you) and finally the sad realization the 2009 flying season has come and gone. I myself certainly had a great year just being with all of you. Everyone has so much to contribute in our district. Keep an eye on the District 2 KFactor column. I expect to feature several articles with subjects such as equipment needed, coaching, practice, rules and general district information. These articles will be submitted by D2 members. I certainly appreciate the help. The District 2 column should not be boring.

What does everyone in District 2 want for Christmas?  I’m trying to get in contact with the guy who lives at the North Pole for a little help with everyone’s list. Let’s make sure we all get that special item for next year’s flying season NOT A LUMP OF COAL!
