November District 2 Update

Who would have thought we could schedule a pattern contest in mid-November and have 21 pilots show up? It happened! There is a growing interest in D2 and the fall Green Sea contest proved it. I must thank George for organizing the contest and stepping out as CD. He has been in District for less than a year and had no idea of the support he could expect. George, I hope you were pleasantly surprised. District two truly has some great people that are willing to support the sport of pattern flying.  Every time I look at the listing of pilots in the various classes from a contest I smile when I see the number of pilots in Sportsman and Intermediate. Let’s keep it going. We have a great bunch of new pilots who are serious about their flying. If you don’t believe it just ask one. They all have a goal to compete, get better and move up.  Perhaps next year the district should honor the most improved pilot. (District 2 pilot group vote)

I’m not going into great details as far as the recent contest only the high points. Buff has already posted the contest results. Take a look on this site. Great job Buff. Some of high points include presentation of the District trophies and fellowship award, appointment of POC for 2010 judging clinic (Dale Arnold great job stepping forward although I thought I did see someone in back of you) and finally the sad realization the 2009 flying season has come and gone. I myself certainly had a great year just being with all of you. Everyone has so much to contribute in our district. Keep an eye on the District 2 KFactor column. I expect to feature several articles with subjects such as equipment needed, coaching, practice, rules and general district information. These articles will be submitted by D2 members. I certainly appreciate the help. The District 2 column should not be boring.

What does everyone in District 2 want for Christmas?  I’m trying to get in contact with the guy who lives at the North Pole for a little help with everyone’s list. Let’s make sure we all get that special item for next year’s flying season NOT A LUMP OF COAL!

Oct Update D2

The District championships have come and gone. Great job Terry and Bill. Certainly was a success with 29 Pilots in attendance. I noticed all class,  except Advanced were well represented. There are quite a few Intermediate pilots flying very well and I am hearing rumors one or two are thinking about moving up. Come on up we would be glad to have you. Terry ran the contest using a championship format. Because this was the D2 championship this method did indeed fit. This allowed Sunday to actually be totally new contest. Saturday’s rounds were brought forward by taking the average of your best three rounds and posting that score as part of your Sunday rounds. A total of three rounds were considered on Sunday with the lowest dropped. Talk about some very close scores by the time finals were posted! Buff has those numbers already up so take a look under contest results.

I try to stay positive in my thoughts and actions. District 2 turnouts at contest are definitely making me feel very positive. We as a district are starting to see and make changes. Several new pilots that are really interest in our part of the hobby are showing up at all contests. Along side these new pilots’ veteran pilots are helping them. I believe this is why we are making progress. My phone is ringing a little more often and email traffic is improving. More and more people I talk to are thinking about giving Pattern a try. Let’s keep it going. I expect to see everyone at Green Sea 14^th and 15^th of Nov. I’m sure George will keep us moving. By the way Buff promised me good weather. 76 degrees and 5 mph winds-Buff I’m counting on you. Don’t forget district championship trophies will be awarded (current standings).  Before I close I want to thank Charles Simmons again for his great attitude and his contributions to District 2 Pattern. It was a pleasure to award him the D2 fellowship award for 2009. Great job Charles!

Just a quick addition. I'm sure everyone by now has notice the Kfactor article was a repeat of last months. I had submitted a new article that was simply not printed. Hope to get this straightened out.
