What causes Brownouts and Holds (Printer Friendly Version)

The objective of this document is to provide an overview of 50-year old modeler setup issues that cause phenomenon” referred to as “Brownouts”. The following chapters cover the history, causes and remedies that address problematic setups. The term Brownout is relatively new and was introduced into our modeling vocabulary around the turn of the century with the release of high-resolution digital servos and 2.4GHz systems. The new term however, describes setup problems that are five decades old and continue to cause loss of aircraft. Unfortunately, the blame for the losses has often been placed on the receiver or brand of radio by those who are not aware that a brownout is a symptom and not the root cause of a receiver going into Brownout mode.
