NATS Information - From Jerry Budd, Nats Event Director (updated 7/30/2024)
As we get additional information about the Nationals, we'll post it here.
An Important Announcement - Earlier this week, Nancy and I tested positive for Covid-19 (first time for both of us!). While we are both are recovering nicely, I will be unable to attend the Nat's this year. Fortunately, we have assembled a great Nat's Planning Team, and have proactively approached the Nat's with a Risk Management focus. Accordingly, once the event starts on Monday morning, July 29th, Rusty Dose and Bob Kane will assume the important role of Co-Event Director's, and will handle all aspects of coordinating on-site activities, schedules, timelines, staffing assignments, real-time decisions, etc., that are typical of running a large contest. I will continue to support the event from afar with developing materials and documentation, and coordination of activities such as the Finals Meeting, and the Friday Night Banquet.
Also, please note that Jon Carter (Chief Judge) will not be able to attend either, but he will be available to support the Pilots Meeting via audio, and the Finals Meeting via Zoom (as will I). Don Ramsey is the Acting Chief Judge for F3A, and Mark Hunt is the Acting Chief Judge for the AMA classes.
Please give Rusty, Bob, Don, and Mark your full support as they work to make the Nat's as successful and memorable as we imagine it can be!

Nat's Notes
I've created a series of Nat's Notes containing information of general interest to both competitors and supporters. I will add updated Notes as additional information becomes available. Check back often!
Nat's Notes - 6.6.2024 - Initial document containing an overview of the Nat's schedule and general information.
Nat's Notes - 7.6.2024 - An overview for the contestants who registered for the event. This is the info that was emailed out to them on 7.5.2024.
Nat's Notes - 7.26.2024 - Latest information on Scoring and Tabulation, Flight Order, Jury Assignments, Pilot Seeding, Logistics, Communication Methodology, Social Events, and Practice Site info.
6.10.2024 - This was in an email from Yolanda at AMA that I received a while back and managed to overlook (sorry!). If you're planing on camping onsite you should probably consider looking into this (as well as everyone else).
As discussed we are moving forward and trying a new platform to use for communication so if you haven’t already done so, please be sure to join AMA Muncie Flying Site camping & Event BAND Group https://band.us/n/a7a60ezbb6l2V.
This communication platform will not only be used for Nats but, also will be used to share and post import information such as schedules changes, weather forecast, food vending location ect.. for all events that are held here at the IAC. So please encourage your groups and contestants to join this platform.
As always if you have any questions, please let me know.
Yolanda
Lots of people asking how can they tell who's registered so far: Current Registration by Class
6.28.2024 - From Colleen Pierce at AMA regarding the Team Selection Program: "I have attached the Entry Form with payment needed. All I really need is payment in order to get you entered into the program, feel free to give me a call next week."
Judge Certification
Please note that the US Nationals judging assignments are largely staffed by competitors, and that (on average) each entrant is required to judge at least (1) round of the competition. Failure to do so will result in that competitor to forfeit their highest score in the preliminaries (for Master and F3A), and their highest score of the 8 flown in Sportsman, Intermediate, and Advanced. As we are flying new sequences in all classes (other than Sportsman), every judge (competitor) is required to take, and pass, the Judge Certification Test. Failure to pass the test by Midnight (12:00 AM EDT), Tuesday, July 30th, will result in the competitor not being allowed to fly their Round 1 & 2 flights that day. Failure to pass the test by Midnight (12:00 AM EDT), Wednesday, July 31st, will result in the competitor not being allowed to fly their Round 3 & 4 flights that day (and so on). If this sounds harsh, please keep in mind that we are depending on competitors to be trained and available to fulfill their judging assignments. If they are not, we have to locate acceptable replacement judges on very short notice. Please help avoid this unpleasant situation by completing the Judge Certification requirement as early as possible. Also note that NSRCA members can take the test for free as part of their membership. If one is not an NSRCA member, there is a $5 fee to take the exam. If for some reason you are having difficulty taking the exam, please contact Chief Judge
Note - We've received a report that attempting to take the exam with an iPad was unsuccessful, until they switched to a MacBook.
Please note that there is a recent rule interpretation update published by the Judging Committee regarding the Comet turnaround maneuver flown in the P-24 sequence. While the example shown is specific to P-24, in general, the interpretation given is also applicable to the Advanced and Intermediate classes. Also, be aware that additional interpretations for judging takeoff and landing in the AMA classes are in work and will be posted shortly.
Some minor changes to the schedule: We moved Advanced to the morning to better balance the judging assignments across the classes. Accordingly, that means that Sportsman and Intermediate will fly in the afternoon, which will provide slack time in the schedule in case of weather delay. Also, processing for the Event Staff flying in the contest will be at 8 AM on Monday, July 29th. Once we have processed the Event Staff that are flying in the event, processing will be opened up for everyone else (likely between 8:30 and 9 AM).
Banquet Tickets: There has been some misunderstanding about the Banquet Tickets that were available for purchase when the pilots registered. A Banquet Ticket is automatically included in each competitor's registration fee. You only need to purchase an additional ticket if another person (non-competitor) will be attending the banquet with you (spouse, child, travel companion, etc). If you purchased additional tickets by accident when you registered, I'd suggest checking with others in need of a ticket, listing your extra ticket(s) as available on social media, a 4-Sale sign at processing, etc). Please note that additional banquest tickets will be available for purchase at the Pilot's Meeting, 6 PM, Monday, July 29th, as well as during the week.
Note - Please contact Jessy Symmes ASAP if you are interested in purchasing an additional Banquet Ticket(s).
Practice Sites - 7.26.2024
It is unknown whether any of the sites at the AMA IAC will be available for practice/open flying prior to Monday, July 29th. Soaring is using the entire complex through Sunday, but they may finsih early. If that happens, JC at AMA will contact us, and we'll immediately send out a message/email to everyone with that updated information. Sites 1, 3, and 4 will be available to us starting Monday, July 29th. However, be aware that AMA Staff may be setting up the flight lines (tents, marking box lines, etc), so please be courteous and aware that there may be some delays while they complete their tasks. In anticipation of this, we created a Suggested Practice Sites document with detailed information for 9 local clubs within an hours drive that you may want to consider practicing at. Please remember that we are guests at their field, so conduct yourselves appropriately.
Communication (Text Messaging Privacy Policy)
We will be using a text messaging service to communicate with the competitors and event staff during the contest. This is our Privacy Policy:
SMS Sharing Disclosure: No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes at any time.
